It really is just one piece of copy — with 800 clever tricks packed into it.
Today I’m sharing a customer-acquisition script in which not a single line says who you are, yet every line tells people what you do. At the end, see if you can guess which industry this copy is for.
Line one: “Is it really that embarrassing to be unable to find a girlfriend in Chongqing?” What’s sneaky about this line is that it draws a circle around people in Chongqing while also poking at a nerve in many of them.
Line two: “Over these seven years I’ve met countless men, and I’ve found it’s not that they don’t want a partner — they just can’t be bothered to look.”
And that’s only the appetizer — each line after this is slicker than the last.
Line three: “Because in Chongqing there are plenty of beautiful women who are just as lazy as they are, and I’ve interviewed them one by one, too.”
What’s wicked about this line is that after hearing it, the audience knows you have exactly what they need.
Line four: “So it really isn’t embarrassing to have no girlfriend in Chongqing — as long as they want it, man or woman, all that’s missing between them is a bridge.”
What’s so slick about this line is that it tells you there’s no one he can’t match up.
Line five: “And I’ve witnessed these people with my own eyes — from strangers to who they are now: married, with kids.”
What’s sneaky here is that he doesn’t just plant his own case studies in your mind — he also builds an atmosphere for you.
And the last line: “Do you know why so many people are too lazy to look for a partner?”
Once that line is out, you know exactly what the whole script was for.
I’ve now given away the framework of this script, so you’ve probably guessed it. All you need to do is apply it to other cases, and you can open up any industry. This is copy that an outsourced operations agency wrote using this very formula.
